Lesson 4.1 - Equipment check and car security

After getting changed into your wetsuit it is a good idea to check over your equipment. Ensure your wetsuit is suitable for the weather conditions. If not the cold can really affect your performance or worse your safety. Is your leash in good condition? Check your leash for fin cuts or abrasions that could cause it to snap. Check your board over for cracks or 'dings' these will not only weaken your board but can absorb water and affect resale value. Shards of fibreglass can also cause nasty cuts if they are not properly repaired by your local ding repair specialist. Make sure the fins of your board are secure and don't have any rough or sharp edges. Make sure you have a fresh coating of surf wax.

After your equipment check make sure you lock up your car safely, hide valuables out of sight and be careful where you put your keys.

KEYPOD is a simple, robust, portable, weatherproof, secure storage safe for keys and other valuables designed to deter would be thieves so that they move on to an easier target. It blends a three digit combination padlock with an integrated storage cavity which is large enough to hold all know modern electronic vehicle keys (and keyless keys), household keys, spare change, credit cards and even some mobile phones.

By simply pressing a button the 8mm padlock shackle opens simultaneously with the storage lid, place in your keys etc, choose a solid anchor point on the car to secure the padlock shackle, close the lid and shackle and set the combination....safe keys! As KEYPOD is portable it can be secured anywhere on your vehicle, for example on the suspension coil, towing eye, under the car body-anywhere that theres a secure point to attach the padlock shackle to.

Although KEYPOD doesn't just have to be left on the car-choose any secure place to attach it and off you go!

Surfboard Security
Whilst on the subject of security, please remember that your surfboard represents a major financial outlay. At the most popular surf breaks in the south west, there is a thriving market in stolen surfboards, so don't let your board be one of them. We recommend that you never leave your car unattended, with the surfboard on the rack, even if securely strapped on! Either use a good board lock, or stow your board inside the car.

Lock Jaw - Fin Box Board Lock
The Lock Jaw - Fin Box Board Lock is probably the best on the market in terms of cost, flexibility and quality of construction. It provides security and more importantly peace of mind for longboarders and works with all boards fitted with standard fin boxes.
The lock construction is zinc alloy, supplied with a PVC plastic coated 6mm width, 2m length, galvanised steel marine cable lanyard, so it isn't going to rust. The steel marine cable is used in shipping and has a massive breaking strain, so its going to hold your board! A determined thief can and will steal almost anything, but this product is a major deterrent and will stop the opportunist from making off with your prized possession.
